We will be traveling between Paris and Vaison la Romaine first thing in the morning on Sep. 14. The plan is to take the TGV to Orange and then bus to Vaison. The best train to Orange arrives at 11:30am. The only bus co. I can find to then take us to Vaison is "Lieutaud". I have sent them 2 msgs. (in French) thru the page on their site and they have yet to respond. All I need to know is if there is bus service in the early afternoon. Somewhere online I did find a 2008 schedule that shows a 1:30 bus from ORange to Vaison. Has anybody done this recently without a car as we are doing? Or can anyone mention other bus companies that might serve this region of Provence?
Merci!
You may have stumped us with this question! I could only find one other person who has posted that they took the bus from either Avignon or Orange to Vaison la Romaine, and her post (in 2008) didn't go into detail and the poster appears to no longer be active on this site.
I've only done it by car.
Here's a suggestion: Because taking the bus from Orange to Vaison is specifically mentioned in Rick's book, Provence & the Riviera (he doesn't go into sufficient detail, in his book, to answer your exact question--I think you may be able to get one of Rick's travel consultants to, possibly, do a little research or share additional details which they may have (additional details not given in his book). At least it's worth an e-mail, right? I only suggest this because he specifically mentions it in his book. You can contact a member of Rick's staff by e-mail using this form

Finding information on country bus services in France can be difficult, but here's one way which sometimes works:
French country bus services are often run by the departement (county) council who contract the routes out to companies. Find out the name of the departement that the town you are visiting is in, then go to a search engine and search on the name with "autobus" (bus) or if that doesn't work "transports en commun" (public transport). This may well bring up a departement bus information website which, however, will probably only be available in French. However, you can generally find route information and timetables by looking for "reseau" (network), "plan du reseau" (route map) and "horaires" (timetables). Remember that the timetable will probably use the 24 hour clock.
