Transferring podcasts to non-iPod mp3?

I have a Samsung T-10 and didn't have any luck transferring Rick's podcasts from iTunes to my mp3 (could be due to operator error, though). Any suggestions on the best way to accomplish this? Can you download the podcasts directly to an mp3 without having to download them to my computer first?

Thanks,
Veronica

My understanding is that the T-10 is not compatible with iTunes, but never fear, there are a number of programs which will work as well, or better. If you use windows, you might give Winamp (http://www.winamp.com/)a try, for Linux, XMMS or Rhythmbox should do fine. Just download the mp3 to a known location on your hard drive and import to the T-10 via the audio player of choice.

Perhaps I'm not getting your question, but to download the mp3s you simply go to the "free podcasts" section of this site. You then save which ever topics you are interested in directly to your hard drive. Since they are bundle in a Zip format you can't put them directly on your device. Unzip the files and then transfer them to your device. The Windows Media Player built into windows should do this for you.

Hi Michael! I think the key here is unzipping the files! I didn't realize I had to do that. I guess that is why I get a "not supported format" message when I try to play the podcasts I thought I had downloaded on the mp3? And how do I unzip them? You can tell I'm a novice at this! Thanks for your patience!

I believe unzipping is now built into windows. Locate the zip file on your hard drive, highlight it, then right click it. When the box appears select "extract all". Go to the extracted mp3 file on your hard drive, after that you transfer it to your device like any other mp3. If for some reason your version of windows doesn't have the unzipping feature, you can download a free program that will do it for you at www.download.com It's called WinZip and it is number ten on the most popular download list.

Funny, I just ran into this.

Other suggestions are likely easier, but if you want to use iTunes...

right click on the podcast (or the whole folder) and click "convert to MP3). It's like in M4P format now, which is iTunes specific. THat will start translating them.

I tried copying from iTunes (drag/drop) then, but I had mixed results (still M4P). So, if you go to where your iTunes music is stored (usually your "My Music" folder or iTunes Folder)....you will see Mp3's there, which you can drag into your player.

Whew! Not sure why it's such a slog.

Hi Laurel! Thanks for yet another tip! You are right--it was a real pain! I think everything is pretty much geared toward iPods, so that leaves the rest of us with "off brand" mP3's to fend for ourselves! I had already burned the podcasts to a CD, so I actually ended up ripping the CD and then transferring the files to my Samsung. My 16-year-old neighbor, who is a real computer wiz, came over and helped me figure out the best and easiest way, and that is what we came up with. We went through Windows Media Player vs. iTunes. Leave it to a teenager to know! (I'm 52, and learn most of my computer knowledge through trial and error.)

Yeah. the Ricksteves.com site has MP3's that you can just download and copy to your mp3 player. No itunes in the middle. itunes is definitely for ipods

Since I don't have an i-pod or mp3 (I know, lame!) my wife and I downloaded the files to our Mac and then loaded it onto a the micro-SD memory card that we have in our phones. We also loaded some music onto the micro-SD memory card so we could listen to that on the train.

We then would use our phones and the ear-bud to listen to the podcasts while in the museums. It wasn't as smooth to operate as using an I-Pod, but it was sure nice not having to worry about keeping track of one extra electronic device. We were bringing our cell phones anyways, so it just made sense for us. Just another thought for people!
