My husband and I will be spending 4 days in Lauterbrunnen (5th day is travel back to Zurich to fly to Prague). Trying to decide what rail passes make sense for us. Wondering what the cost of the lifts, funiculars etc. in the area. We will want to take the trip up to schilthorn and Golden Pass rail trip (probably from Interlaken to Montreax . Having lots of trouble with the rail site. Links in RS guide that I downloaded doesn't work. any info appreciated. (I do know that single purchase round trip tickets from Zurich to Lauterbrunnen will run us $90) Thanks to all
Kathy
if you go to the Swiss Rail website www.sbb.ch/en you will have the English version of the site all fares are shown there. Warning the site's default is half fare, the other site you may find useful is the Jungfraubahnen site www.jungfraubahnen.ch which also has an English version.
good advice from Pauline. Kathy, where did you see $90 Rt for Zurich to Lauterbrunnen and back? The one-way fare is 74 CHF if you go the fast way (via Bern) or 56 CHF if you go the slower scenic route (via Luzern). There is no discount for round-trip purchase, so the minimum for RT would be 112 CHF, not $90. A Swiss Card will cover your travel from Zurich to Lauterbrunnen and back for free, and will give you 50% off everything else, including the Schilthorn trip. That is one of several options to consider.
I am also working on a visit to the Murren area (near Lauterbrunnen). I suggest you also look at the Berner Oberland Pass. I wish I could be more helpful with specifics but I am still figuring this out too!
Thanks to all. I was getting 90.00 from RS route map-50 from Zurich to Bern, 30 to Interlaken and 10 to Lauterbrunnen. Just an estimate. Also my understanding is that they have discontinued the burner oberland regional pass- seems like its replaced by the flexipass.
