Trains from Venice to Munich (or Salzburg)

Hi,

We are looking at taking a day train from Venice in July (the 22nd)to either Munich or Salzburg (undecided as of yet). Understanding that we need to connect in Verona I seem to be running into a problem when searching for a train btw Venice and Verona for the morning/early afternoon. I've searched via both the Italian and German rail sites without success. Does anyone know if the Venice to Verona trains change schedule during july? Thanks.

"Understanding that we need to connect in Verona..."

1) Do you mean that you want to stop in Verona (and get off the train, to sight-see or whatever)?

2) Or, do you mean, you're assuming that to get from Venice to Munich or Salzburg that you must connect through Verona? If you mean the latter, then here's the way the Bahn website works. To approximate the schedules that aren't available yet from Trenitalia, just pick an arbitrary date (weekday or weekend, if you know), then input Venice or Venezia as your "from" city, and Munich (or Salzburg) as your "to" city; the website will take it from there and show you the various trains and where you will change trains (if you have to change trains). You don't have to do the Verona part, unless you want to stop in Verona and get off.

Kent, there are four EuroCity (EC) day trains from Verona to Munich. Two start in Verona, one in Bologna, one in Milan, but they all go through Verona. There are Europa-Spezial Italien fares available from the Bahn starting at €39, from stops in Italy, including Verona, to Munich. However, in keeping with the Bahn's policy of not offering these tickets for routes with legs entirely outside of Germany, you will not find that fare if you put in Venice to Munich. You have to book it as Verona to Munich and book the Venice to Verona ticket separately.

Dan, Venice to Verona is a fairly main line, and, once the schedule is posted, you will find lots of trains of all varieties (Reg, IC, probably ES*) during the day.

Thanks all.

I mentioned Verona as we would rather use this city as the connection instead of Villach (via bus). I'm relieved that no change has occurred in the schedule and trenitalia has simply not posted the schedule. I'll follow the advice and use the May information to build out the rest of the itinerary.
