Could anyone tell me the best way and/or website to reserve a one-way TGV ticket from Paris to Avignon in February? I tried SNCF.com but can't seem to get any information in English (my French is not up to speed yet...). Also, what might be a realistic price for a ticket for 2 adults? Thanks!
Go to http://www.voyages-sncf.com and click on the Union Jack button on the lower left side for English. Ticket prices depend on class, how far in advance you book them, and how many conditions you're willing to accept.....no refund, no return PREMs tickets would be the cheapest...but you must book ASAP to get them.
You can buy a ticket for one way tgv or book a reservation if you have a rail pass.
RailEurope will cost you a lot more than ordering through SNCF.
The SNCF in English
The SNCF site will definitely offer you the best price. To have the best chance of getting a PREM'S fare, book as soon as the 90-day window opens. Leave France as the default country, do NOT choose cancellation insurance, and print your own ticket at home.
That is good to know about the SNCF directly. I wasn't aware that you could print out the ticket. I assumed that it would be easier to have the ticket or rez mailed from rail europe. Thank you everyone for making this site so great.
Thanks to everyone for their comments - very helpful.
Jeff, with SNCF the options for collecting your ticket depend upon what type it is. PREM'S for travel solely within France are the only tickets you can print yourself. PREM'S tickets for international routes must be mailed to an address in Europe--a hotel, for example. (North America is off limits.) Standard tickets can be picked up at any train station or SNCF boutique.
All of the above comments are great, I would only add this....If you are a Amtrak rider be aware that if your ticket says 11:00 don't get there at 11:01 unless you want some pictures of your train leaving. French trains are very punctual.
