We will be staying somwhere near Nice in a small town and wanted to see Florence first in September.Does anyone know about transport, or should we Drive it????Thank You Diane
Diane, there are about 5-6 trains a day from Nice to Florence. Expect 8.5hrs-10.5hrs and up to 3 train changes for the journey. Since these are mostly slower and less expensive trains, I'm seeing a fare of 28.50Euro for 2nd class.
You do have the option to drive but it will cost you a bit more and you have to be careful not to drive in Florence due to numerous restricted areas. They'll catch your license plate on computerized cameras and send you a healthy ticket.
Note that on the train ride, you go right through the heart of the Cinque Terre. In fact, your train runs will most likely stop at two of the five towns. Nice scenery.
