trains from Interlaken to Munich

Greetings travelers!! My family and I need to take a one-day train from Interlaken switzerland to Munich Germany. There are SOO many routes that it is hard to decide. Some take you way to Mannheim before returning to Munich. I appreciate your advice on a more direct and scenic route.

Well the easiest and most direct is to leave Interlaken at either 8 am or noon and go to Munich in 7 hours with a single chain at Karlsruhe. If you leave at 10 you have 2 changes, at Basel and Ulm. If you want something interesting like a boat ride or other departure times you will have more changes along the way. With a family and luggage that can be a hassle unless they are really good at the train change drill.

Thanks for the advice!! There are so many routes from the Interlaken area to Munich it is cornfusing! Checking several routes they show as little as 8 minutes for a transfer; is this possible? Seems way to little in a big train station like Zurich or Bern. THANKS!

I'd be comfortable with 8 minutes in most Swiss stations but you may not be. If using the Bahn website to plan your travel you can uncheck the "Prefer Fast Connections" box and you will get a bit more breathing space.

Looking at the Bahn schedule (don't use one from RailEurope), I see a connection leaving Interlaken Ost at 11:00, with changes in Bern (10 min, 1 platform) and Zürich (18 min) to Munich at 17:28. That train connection takes only 6½ hours and also seems to have one of the least expensive Europa-Spezial fares attached to it, €59/P. It goes from Zürich Hbf to Munich around Bodensee via Bregenz and Lindau. Lindau is a pretty city, and from there, the train goes through the Allgäu, also about as scenic as you'll get for a fast route.

WOW thanks for the great advice on routes from Interlaken to Munich. Especially to use Bahn instead of RailEurope; RailEurope has been frustrating!! I will investigate your advice.
