is it a good idea to buy my train ticket ahead of time from zurich to stuttgart...or just buy it in the zurich airport train station? thanks! It seems cheaper to buy it on the www.bahn.de site now....advice? thanks! Marilyn
It is cheaper if you are going roundtrip. (We just did this). I don't know about one-way. but if you've looked at the prices and found it is cheaper to buy in advance, there is no downside to doing that. You can print out the ticket at home and you're all set.
The one problem is that the Sparpries is usually for a particular train. It might be difficult to know in advance which train you can take--what if your plane is late?
actually we are taking a train on our swiss transfer ticket from zermatt to zurich in the morning. But we don't have a specific train as you don't make arrangements ahead of time on those I don't think.....so it makes me nervous to buy our zurich to stuttgart tickets...? I think it's alot cheaper though...on that German rail site....they said they can mail them to our home free in three days....when I bought our Eurostar tickets from Stuttgart to Paris we could print them out ahead of time, but in this case the only option was to have them sent..so if I do it I have to do it soon! :)
thanks for your kind reply...appreciate any help...want to save money but don't know when exactly we'll get into Zurich from Zermatt.

We bought our tickets and they have already arrived. Be sure and make a reservation as well as a ticket. It is $10 more, but worth the cost. We would have been standing all the way from Genoa to Switzerland if we hadn't. We were going to do the same trip, but it cost so much that we have rented a car and will drive.
