Hello,
I will travel to Paris and the Riviera in the end of July. There are two adults and one senior. Train travel will be the TGV from Paris to Nice, anf about 4 days between places in the Riviera. Is it more economical to buy separate tickets or one Super Saver Pass for 5 day travel? Do these passes cover TGV or is it additional? The passes are $230 each. Thank you!
Unfortunately you have to do your homework. We can guess but no one can give you an absolute answer. At one time a rail pass was a no brainer but not today with advance purchase discounts and supplement fees to use a rail pass. If it is a four day pass, divide by four ($60 plus another 10 or 15 for fees) Then check to see if each of your train travels exceed $75/day. Then you have your answer.
If your only long distance train ride will be Paris-Nice, then railpasses will be a waste of money. Tickets on regional trains on the Riviera are very cheap. For example, Nice-Monaco costs €3.70. You've waited too long to get the cheapest discount fare for Paris-Nice, but if you book now at tgv-europe.com you still can save some money. What's your travel date?
