I'm hoping someone can help me with this question. I'm taking a train from Salzburg, during the day, to Verona with my teenage daughters. Is there such a thing as a discount ticket? A coupon? Or all tickets created equal? Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post.
Diane, As your ticket will include two countries, you may be able to obtain a discount on the Austrian portion, but I'm not sure if that will also apply to the Italian leg of the trip. The lowest price I could find was €39 PP in second class, and I assume that's an advance fare. Hopefully Lee will spot this Thread, as I'm sure he'll have some excellent suggestions. That trip will go through the Brenner Pass, and I always enjoy the beautiful scenery. There will be a short stop at the border point to change locomotives. You'll be arriving at Verona Porta Nuova station, which is a short distance from the main part of the city. You can take either a Bus or Taxi to your Hotel (I've used both methods). Happy travels!
The €39 fare to which Ken refers is a SparSchiene advance purchase discount fare from Austrian Rail. It includes both legs: Salzburg-Innsbruck and Innsbruck-Verona. Those tickets are limited so book ASAP to have the best chance of getting that fare.
