Just working on an itinerary and am a little unsure the best way to do this leg of our trip. We will be in Bruges, with the original plan to go from Bruges to Paris. I am thinking now of going from Bruges to Mont St Michele, staying overnight, then head from there to Paris. How difficult is this? How close does the train get to Mont St. Michele? Thanks!
You ain't going to like this. What you have to do is take a train from Brugge to Paris, make your way to the other side of town, and take another train toward MSM. The MSM station is at Pontorson, about five miles south of the mont. Buses run the rest of the way. You're probably looking at eight hours, maybe a bit more, to get all the way out to MSM. Getting back into Paris will take around five hours.
ugggh.....your right Ed. In looking at it, I was wondering if we would have to go to Paris and then backtrack to MSM. One option may be then to go to Bruges to Paris first....spend our 3-4 days there and then go from Paris to MSM. After that we are heading over to Germany, so I guess we would be backtracking to go to Germany, adding 5 hours to that days travels.... Wonder if MSM is worth the effort???
It wouldn't be to me for the effort involved. I've been there a bunch of times (lugging others around, mostly) and don't give a hoot for it as a destination. If you're passing by, one the other hand, and can stop in for an hour or two...... Were I you, it'd wait for another time.
