train travel amsterdam to genoa

I have not been able to find much information on how to get from Amsterdam to Genoa - I would prefer to take the train. How long? How much? Routes?

The best website to find out about train trips and schedules is www.bahn.de. Amsterdam to Genoa is a long trip - 13 to 15 hours through Switzerland and then though Milan.

Why Genoa?

Thanks - Genoa is a meeting place for four sisters going to Cinque Terre. Maybe it would be better to fly!

Genoa is a good connection to the CT. If there's flexibility, Pisa is another good option for flying.

For budget airlines out of Amsterdam, only one flies to Pisa. Then, it's just over 2hrs by train to Genoa. It's about an hour to the CT. If you must meet in Genoa, then Milan Malpensa has more budget airline options. Plus, the train ride to Genoa is about 1hr-45min.

Larry - you're right, of course. I meant if there's flexibility for the four sisters to meet in Pisa instead of Genoa.

The easiest way to this by train is via the City Night Line train to Basel Switzerland. Leaves Amsterdam 8:30pm arrives at Basel at 6:54am. At 7:03 there is a direct train to Genoa that arrives at 1:42pm, Total travel time is seventeen hours 11 minutes.

Thanks for all the great information - Now - since you are all so familiar with CT - which is the best village to stay in? - how long should we plan on being in CT - we have 10 days - is that too long?

I would read about each village on the webpages and then decide which one appeals most to you.

Each is different. Ten days is too long for me. You should go and leave when you have had enough.

We stayed in Vernazza and after seeing the other 4 villages we were glad we had. It is the most picturesque and compact.

We rented an apartment for a week and were ready to leave after only 4 or 5 days.
