You can buy a one day Rhein-Mosel Ticket for around 20 Euros that covers all zones within the VRM bus & rail network. Up to five people can travel on the same ticket. Use the link below for more information.

Hmm. I've always used www.vrm-info.de to access the Verkehrsverbund, but it appears that www.vrm.info also works. The website does have an English language side.

The Verkehrsverbund (transit distict) Rhein-Mosel is just one of the Verkehrverbünde in Rheinland-Pfalz, and it's area is, therefore, more limited. The Verkehrverbund covers an area from Oberwesel, just below Bacharach, but not Bacharach, to the Land border between Remagen/Linz and Bonn, and up the Mosel to just beyond Bullay. So, if you can stay within the borders of the VRM, you can save a little.

The €20 Tageskarte covers the entire Verkehrsverbund. If you stay within a smaller area, you can get the multi-person Tageskarte (day ticket) for even less than €20.

The question was Cochem to Trier and back. Are you sure that this trip is covered by the VRM? I tried those locations on the VRM website and got the following message relative to this trip:

[Preisinformation] Tarifauskunft nicht möglich

I am not sure if the VRM extends to Trier. The Rheinland-Pfalz ticket does.

Tarifauskunft nicht möglich

"Fare information is not possible."

No, the VRM area does not include Trier. It only extends southward on the Mosel to just beyond Bullay. Trier is outside the VRM district, but within Rheinland-Pfalz, so a RL-P-Ticket is what you will need.

However, if your travel is within the VRM district, the VRM Gruppentageskarte can save you money over the Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket.

Thanks Lee, Gary and Shawn! The Rheinland-Pfalz ticket ticket it is. Does anyone know if this needs to be an advance purchase or can I just get it right before the trip? Also would the Rheinland-Pfalz ticket also include Cologne or is that too far up?
Thanks again millions!

One more thing I can't figure out if the Happy weekend ticket is for both Sat and Sun or Sat. one ticket and Sunday you would need to buy a ticket again. Like one for each day or one ticket for both days.

The Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket can be purchased in advance or on the day of travel - doesn't matter - and they are unlimited, so you don't have to worry about them being sold out.

I suggest you buy it from one of the ticket automats. It's €27 there, but it's €29, €2 more, at a ticket counter, for the personal service. Most of the automats will have two column of buttons on the RH side; one will be for a "Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket". After you push the button, the screen will display options, such as Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket or Rheinland-Pfalz-Single. After you push the number button for the option you want, it will ask you "Heute" (today), "Morgan" (tomorrow), or "Andere" (other). Andere will allow you to select the date on a calendar. You don't put in your money until after it displays the price.

The border between Rheinland-Pfalz and Nordrhein-Westfalen is just down the river (up on your map) from Remagen and Linz, but the RL-P-Ticket is valid for travel all the way to Bonn, which is in NR-W, but is considered a border station. That's why you would have to stop in the station at Bonn and buy a VRS ticket to Köln for the rest of your travel.

The Happy Weekend (Schönes-Wochenende) Ticket is valid for A weekend day, Saturday or Sunday, not both.
