We are staying in Switzerland and will be leaving Locarno to travel by train to Nice where we have a condo for ten days. We would like to spend a night or two in a town along the way. Any suggestions? We are seniors so we need easy stops where there are not a lot of steps from the train station up to ground level. Thanks.

One city you might consider is the beautiful city of Stresa. It's an easy trip from Locarno, either via the CentoValli Railway or via boat (it's at the other end of Lago Maggiore from Locarno). While in Stresa, you could tour the Borromeo Islands and gardens.
The trip from Stresa to Nice is relatively easy. I assume you'll be travelling via rail?

Thanks Ken. Actually we will be staying with my cousin at their vacation home on Lago Maggiore. I thought I would like to break the train distance to Nice with a night or two somewhere along the Italian coast to Nice. My comment about the steps was referring to lugging our bags. We are quite fit for walking and enjoy it.
