Train Rostock to Berlin?

My husband and I are taking a cruise with our parents who are in their 70's. Our cruise ship offers train fare to Berlin for $170 p/p. But I see DB Bahn sells Regional tickets for as little as $50.

Has anyone taken the train independently from the port of Rostock to Berlin?

Do you have any advice?

Specifically :

Can we walk from the ship terminal to the train station? Our parent's are in good shape walking is not a problem for them as long as it's not a mile away or uphill both ways.

Is it better to buy tickets from, DB Bahn in advance on line or to wait and buy them in the station?

Any other tips ?

Amanda, I suggest you check out CruiseCritic.com. Once you sign up (it's just like posting on this site) you can do a search using the word Rostock and you will be led to a wonderful person who answers all sorts of questions about Germany as well as other ports. You can also narrow it down by choosing your cruise line as a starting point and then do the search. Hope this helps. Pat
