Looking for you help again. Will be in Switzerland lake Brienz as a home base for 6 days then will head to austria for 5 days and then to cinque terre Italy for 3 days then to Zurich to fly home. Plan to do day trips to montreux , gruyere, jungfrau, lake Thun . When in Austria will base in Salzburg want to stop in Innsbruck and some additional sites. All travel will be public train, bus etc. here is where we need help. Does it pay to go the euro rail route or do we get a half fare pass in Switzerland and then some type of pass in Austria. The train travel is very confusing for us seeing we really have nothing to compare it to. Your help is appreciated.
I understand that the one site NOT to go to for any passes is RailEurope in the US I don't know about Austria but in Switzerland you can buy the half price pass for one month,(110CHF) and you can buy it on arrival, just go to the ticket office at the first manned station which I imagine will be Zurich or Geneva. Having said that you should do the maths first, check the prices on the Swiss Rail website at www.sbb.ch/en. Then add in all the trips you think you might make. Have a good trip
