Train or Drive from Lake Cuomo to Paris

We are staying 2 nights in Lake Cuomo and were originally planning to take the train from Milan to Paris. However, the train we want to take leaves at 8:10 a.m. and it's an hour and a half from Cuomo to Milan. Plus we would have to drop off the car. Now we are thinking of driving. If we rent the car in Florence, can we drop it off in Paris? Also, what's the best route to take? Thanks.

Sue,

One important point to mention is that often dropping off cars in a different country involves a hefty drop-off charge. Also, driving will take longer than travel by train (NO car can travel as fast as the TGV!). The cost of fuel and especially tolls in France has to be considered also (I was there recently and the booths seem to be spaced about every 20 minutes on the motorways - perhaps an exaggeration but there sure seemed to be LOTS of them!).

Given the circumstances, you could either travel from Lago di Como to Milan very early and drop off the car (although you'd have to check on what time the rental agency opens) OR stay in Milan one night and drop off the car the previous night.

Perhaps you could take the 08:25 train from Milan (one change in Geneve)?

Good luck!
