do trains run from Salzburg to Murren? Anyone know how long a train ride? Best to use eurail or German behn line? First timer to do this.
Check schedules and fares at the Swiss Rail site:
The fastest connection is 7.5 hours and requires two connections (Zurich and Bern), to get you to Interlaken.
First of all, it's German Rail or the Bahn (also Deutsche Bahn or DB), not German behn. Secondly, Eurail is not a rail line. The rail lines in Europe are operated by the national rail companies; German Rail is one of them. Eurail is a cooperative endeavor of the various national rail companies to package and market rail passes. They're not a rail line; they don't run trains. Whether or not you buy a Eurail pass, you will travel by German Rail in Germany and by Swiss Rail in Switzerland. A good place to find schedules is the German Rail website. It would probably be helpful to spell Mürren as Muerren.
The fastest trip, as Michael said, is about 7½ hours. However, that connection will cost you over €120 per person, one way.
German Rail, on their website, sells an advance purchase ticket, called "Europa-Special", for prices as low as €39 pP. That fare is offered on some connections from Salzburg all the way to Mürren, but the timing for the "to Mürren" connections is not good (11 hours leaving Salzburg at 6:39 or 18 hrs arriving in Mürren at 6 AM).
On the other hand, I found another €39 pP fare for a 8h45m connection from Salzburg to Interlaken Ost (10:12-18:57). You'd still have to pay for Interlaken Ost to Mürren, but it can't be that much.
