I looked on the bahn.de site and it seems there's a train that leaves Interlaken Ost at 7'ish in the morning for Bern and then a connection to Dijon. Will we be able to get from Wengen or Murren BEFORE that time to get to the train station for our connection? We're planning to stay in both Wengen and Murren for a few days each and wonder which would make the most sense on the last day to make the train connections. The later train will get us into Dijon too late for our weekend Burgundy river boat cruise. Thanks for your help.
The bahn.de timetables show that the answer to your question is "yes." You can get from either Wengen or Mürren to Interlaken Ost in time to catch the 07:01 train to Bern.
Leave Wengen(CH) at 06:12 and change in Lauterbrunnen for Interlaken Ost. Or leave Mürren BLM at 06:06 and again change in Lauterbrunnen.
If you stay in Muerren, the Muerren BLM (Gondola) doesn't begin running until 6:06am. You need to be on this gondola if you want to make the 7:01am train in Interlaken Ost. You have 6 minutes from the gondola station to the Lauterbrunnen train to Interlaken Ost. It's only about 400 feet so it's easy. If you want to see this schedule, go to www.sbb.ch. Input Murren BLM and Dijon-Ville and 5:00am. You'll see it.
If you stay in Wengen, you have to catch the 6:12am cog train down to Lauterbrunnen. You'll be there 5 minutes before the train departs to Interlaken Ost.
Don't worry about tight train connections. The Swiss are experts at this and they are aware of the other gondolas, buses and other trains that need connections. You'll make it easily.
Thanks for the info everyone!
Jeff, you're right. I went on the Rail Europe site and it's very easy to navigate. Especially since we have just 3 "major" travel days. In fact, I think they're the only ones who offer the Eurail Select Pass Drive offer. That's perfect for our needs.
