Will arrive Zurich on Friday May 13 in the am, intended to take train to Lugano, but just checked the schedule at the website recommended here and see just one time and its 7 hours.....Need to decide if I should spend the night in Zurich, or is there another train route someone has taken?? You must be looking at the wrong website. It is sbb.ch or rail.ch for Swiss trains. The journey is only about 2 hours 40 minutes on a train with no changes from Zurich main station. They depart at 9:01, 9:09, 11:01, 11:09, etc. You get to the main station from the train station right in the airport in about 12 minutes.

Thank you! I was on the wrong web site. "Europe Rail" did show the trains departing on the hour. Took care of that scare for the morning!

Please note that you can buy your tickets in advance on the Swiss website listed by Lola. Buying in advance can get you some great deals. These great deals are not available on RailEurope.

Thank you for the information about buying the tickets in advance. My concern about doing that is are the tickets for a certain time, or can they be used as needed for that day? Since we are flying in you can never depend on an exact connection is what I am worried about. Thank you again for the information,

Unfortunately those advance purchase tickets on the SBB website are for reserved seats on a particular train. They are non-changeable. So there is a risk that you would miss the train if your plane is late arriving in Zurich. Or you could book a much later train to be on the safe side, but then if you plane is right on time you would be wasting time waiting for the train. Tough call.
