Is it necessary to reserve a seat for the train from Paris to Reims? It looks like there are several every day from various stations.

I don't know where you get the "various stations" from. The main station for trips from Paris to Rheims is gare de l'Est in Paris, the other options you're seeing are probably connections. If you take the TGV from Paris to Rheims you will automatically get a reserved seat. However, if you book in advance online compared to on the day you will get much cheaper fares, albeit limited to specific trains.

When I took the train to Reims in 2009, I was surprised and discouraged when it pulled into a station FAR from the middle of the town. There is a station in the town, but I don't know it's name. Just make sure you know where you are going.
