Train from Paris to Munich where to stop in Switzerland?

I am traveling with a group of ladies next May. We are taking the train from Paris to Munich and someone suggested that we stop on the way to break up the trip. Appenzell in Switzerland was suggested. Has anyone stayed in this town? It seems very small and a little out of the way?

There is a lot there, but it all depends on what you are looking for. It is not out of the way if you define your trip as Paris to Munich by rail. Rick spends 10 pages on the town in his book Switzerland.
