Train from Paris to Arles

I understand that the high speed train goes to Avignon. How does one then get to Arles? Is there a bus or another train one can take to Arles. If so, are is the bus or train located where you get off the high speed train. Many thanks.

I googled Railroad France and got this web site. www.RailEurope.com/Official It shows that there are several trains from Avignon to ARles and it's a fast trip (less than half an hour.) Caution though. Find out if the TGV train goes to the same station. If you just google Paris to Arles, they route you through Lyon.

Do NOT depend upon Rail Europe for timetables. They're incomplete, particularly when several connections are involved.

The best timetables for all of Europe are at www.bahn.de. After you get summary timetables for Paris-Arles, click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points, if any. Depending upon when you leave Paris, you may connect in Avignon or Marseille. Or you may take a direct TGV. Sometimes your connection will be a bus and sometimes it will be a regional train.

Hi, Iris!
We arrived from Paris CDG to the Avignon TGV station last summer. The TGV station is located outside the historic city, in the suburbs. It is very modern and looks and feels like a tiny airport. When you disembark from the train, you go down one level to the main entry if you want to take a bus. They pull up near the entrance doors.

The Arles bus took about 30- 40 minutes. If you want to take the train to Arles, you would take the shuttle bus to the city center station. That train takes about half an hour, too. So you don't save much time- just take whichever option aligns best with your arrival.

In Arles, the train station is small and the buses use a large parking lot just in front. It was about a ten minute walk, somewhat uphill, to the area by the arena from the station.

Just to add to Karens good info - if you want to do a bit of sightseeing in Avignon, it might be worth it to take the bus to the central train station in Avignon. They have convenient lockers to stash your stuff while you spend a few hours in Avignon, then you can take one of the frequent trains to Arles.

Otherwise, as noted, just take the bus.
