I am an American who will be spending some time in Europe this spring with a friend, and I am looking for a train from Paris to Amsterdam. I have looked at TGV as well as Thalys, both of which sold out the day the tickets became available. I am hoping to find a ticket for relatively cheap (as far as trains between these locations go) and I'm wondering if there will be another opportunity to buy them, or perhaps I should just wait until I am in Paris to do so? I have already booked the hotels in both cities so any and all help is much appreciated! Thank you!
It's highly unlikely tickets are sold out, they are only available 92 days ahead of time. What day are you traveling? To get the absolute lowest prices you need to purchase in advance, if you wait until the day of your journey you will pay the most expensive fare. Be sure to use http://www.thalys.com, you'll be able to print your tickets out at home.
Thank you! Does this mean I should continue checking every few days then?
You're very welcome, what is the exact date you are traveling we can double check for you.
Wow! What a quick response- this is my first time posting at all here and I love it already. I will be leaving Paris on April 3rd, 2012 for Amsterdam with no return train. My only concern was how quickly it sold out, but I assumed more tickets would become available, I was just curious as to when. I suppose I should just continue checking? Thank you again!
Something is off. It is rare for any train to sell out in Europe especially at that time of year. Or you were looking for seats with a rail pass? Those do go quickly. Which site were you using to check schedules?
I looked on both Thalys and Eurostar.com. I booked a train from London to Paris no problem a few days ago, having done my homework and knowing that they would go on sale 90 days in advance. But for some reason I do not understand what is going wrong here. I thought maybe only a few went on sale at this time, and more would become available soon? Any help here is appreciated, so thank you for your time!
Looks like thalys.com now realizes there is a problem with their site....a message now pops-up which states: " Due to technical issues, tickets for trains travelling from 02/04/2012 will be on sale from 13/01/2012." So you'll just have to wait little bit longer. But make sure you book on the 13th, the sooner you book the cheaper it is...the savings are significant. Cheers!
