I'll be landing in Paris CDG airport around 10am and I would like to take the TGV to Avignon on the same day. I'm looking to book my train ticket ahead of time so that I can get a good price. How much time should I give myself to get from the airport to the train station so I don't miss my train? Also if I do happen to miss my train, can I use my ticket for a train at a later time that day?

There are several TGV trains a day that run from the train station under CDG Terminal 2 to Avignon, so time to station really depends on which terminal you're landing at. Personally, I'd leave an hour to get thru customs and pick up baggage, a half hour to get to the train station, and another hour for padding....in case, for example, your flight arrival is delayed. Some of the trains will take you all the way to Avignon center, others will drop you at the Avignon TGV station, which is a short bus ride in. Whether you can change your ticket depends on the ticket you buy...the cheaper the ticket, the more restrictions on it. You can check for all the details, and purchase, at the French national railway website, http://www.voyages-sncf.com and click on the Union Jack in the lower left for English. Enter "Roissy" as your departure station.
Thanks Norm .. I thought I'd have to get into Paris and then take a train from there. Being able to leave from the airport sounds like a much better idea!

I would consider a little more than the suggested hour if you are making any sort of connection in Europe (such as British Airways through London) prior to the arrival in Paris. Another reason is if a bag is lost, you can end up waiting in a long line etc.. You may find that you will want to take some time - get a coffee, got to the toilet and that time will add up quickly.
If you are arriving anywhere other than T2 - you will have to consider transfer time to the Gare to catch your train etc.
