Train from Nice to Cinque Terre

Has anyone done this recently? How long does it take and could one just stay one night and return to Nice? This would be in June. Thank you

Shari, That particular route is not ideal for a one-night trip, although it certainly is feasible. The travel time from Nice Ville to the Cinque Terre (I used Monterosso to check the times) ranges from 5H:39M to 10H:17M each way, with 2-5 changes. Your travel time would be close to the time you'd be able to spend in the Cinque Terre. Is there any possibility you'd be able to stay for two nights in the C.T.? That would allow a bit more time to explore the area, and perhaps hike the trails. Cheers!

Using Ken's example of Monterosso, the earliest you could leave Nice would be 05:23 and you would arrive in Monterosso at 11:57. The latest you could leave Monterosso would be 17:18 and you would arrive in Nice at 23:36.

Thanks Ken and Tim. Yes, we could stay two nights in CT. We would just leave our base condo in Nice. Where did you get the train schedules? When I checked on Rail Europe I get a note saying it is a local track and not accessible. Thank you.

Shari, I obtained the train times from the bahn.de (German Rail) website. It's one of the best resources from finding train information in Europe. Rail Europe tends to be more limited and I never use that site to find times. One point to note is that schedules are only posted a few months at a time, so if you were looking for a particular rail trip six months from now, the information would likely not be available. I generally research trips using the same day of the week that I'll be travelling, as some routes have reduced trains on weekends. Of course, schedules are always subject to change, so it's a good idea to re-check at least the important ones just prior to your trip. Happy travels!
