train from cruise ship to airport in rome

We are coming into port at 7 a.m. and need to get to the airport in rome for a flight out at 12:15. Is it easy to take the train or is it better to pay the cruise lines exhorbiant fee for transport. There are 3 of us....with 2 pieces of luggage each.
Thanks.

I've never flown out of Rome or taken a cruise that arrived at that port (I assume Cittavechia?), so I can't advise as to the availability of the train.

One thing I would comment, however, is that, if you take the cruise line's transport, even though it might be more expensive, THEY are responsible if you miss your flight.

One consideration is retrieving your luggage. Usually, the procedure at the end of a cruise is that the cruise line picks up your luggage from your stateroom the night before you disembark, then you reclaim it in the port area somewhere.

There can be a lot of luggage that has to be offloaded from a cruise ship, and it can take some time. If your luggage is delayed for some reason and you miss your flight because of the delay, you have no recourse -- UNLESS you used the cruise line's transportation to the airport.

So, personally, I would pay the extra charge, for peace of mind. You don't want to miss your flight.

Any cruises I have taken have always asked about the times of flights out and try to accommodate an early disembarkation....perhaps it depends on the cruise line policy but worth a try. With three of you together, it might even be worth while splitting a taxi instead of paying for three at cruise line rates.
