Train from Brussels airport to Gent

Is it necessary to take a train to Brussels in order to get to Gent or is there a train from the airport that goes there? Thanks...

Direct regional trains from the airport to Gent depart at 9 and 51 minutes past the hour. They stop at all three stations in Brussels. There are other departure times that require one connection, either at Mechelen or Bruxelles-Nord.
