Train from Brugges to Caan

My wife and I are renting a car for the Benelux countries and thanks for advice of other posters, we will leave our car in Brugges and want to take a train to Caen for the D-Day sites and will rent another car. Does anybody know what the train ticket will cost (I realize we will have to travel to Paris and catch another train to Caen)? Thanks, Dorsey

Bruges-Lille: €14.70.

Lille-Paris: Depending upon the time of day (peak or off-peak hours), the standard 2nd class fare ranges from €39.10 to €53.70. Booked well in advance online at www.voyages-sncf.com, a Prem's fare can be as low as €20.

Paris-Caen: Standard 2nd class fare is €29.80. The Prem's fare can be as low as €15.

Thanks Tim for this really helpful information. Any more ideas on how to get from Gare du Nord to Gare St. Lazare in a little over one hour? Dorsey

You could also rent your car in Lille, and drive from there to Caen. I think it's about a four-hour drive.

I'd probably take the train, but driving is a reasonable option too.

On TGV-Europe.com, Bruges-Caen (connection in Paris) is selling for 40 Euro. The train leaves at 6:26am. To book in English and avoid Rail Europe, select GREAT BRITAIN as the country of collection. FYI: The lowest fares are for nonrefundable tickets.

You can also book Bruges-Paris and Paris-Caen as separate journeys on TGV Europe.

At Gare du Nord, take RER line E to Haussmann-Saint Lazare (Direction: Same station). It is the last station on the line. From there, follow signs for "Grandes Lignes." The transfer takes about 15 minutes.

Here's a printable map of the metro.
