Any ideas on the fastest way to get from Avignon to Barcelona? Going in mid October.

For the fastest way, you need to be on the French TGV for most of your journey. Explaining further, if you take the train, you will need a ticket from Avignon to Barcelona Sants. There are several runs during the day. Some are simply slower regional trains and a few have TGV trains. Oddly, it will be faster to depart Avignon Centre than it will to depart Avignon TGV. If you depart Avignon TGV, they will most likely put you on a bus to Avignon Centre. You will change trains at least twice. On some runs you will change 3 times. Journey times range from 5hrs10min to just over 8hrs. Thus, you need to look closely at the schedules. I've been using www.bahn.de to research this answer. Also, my wife and I are doing the reverse in late September (Barcelona/Avignon). We'll be staying in Avignon. One of the fastest runs of the day departs Avignon Centre at 09:15 and arrives in Barcelona Sants at 14:46. You will change trains twice on this run. Journey time is 5hrs31min
