I am taking a train from Madrid to Barcelona during the traditional lunch "hour." If I upgrade to business I get the lunch that comes with the ticket. Has anyone had recent "train food" experience in Spain? Should I just back my own in Lower class or is the train meal experience worth it? The difference seems to be about $24. each.
We rode that train in business class a year ago, so I hope that was recent enough. We left Barcelona at 11:00 so I assumed the "meal" we got was lunch. Apart from the small bottle of cava, it was pretty mediocre---a small dry tuna sandwich, some cut-up fruit, and I think there was a small package of almonds. It was OK because we got the Web fare for that ride and it wasn't all that expensive. But I wouldn't pay extra for that meal---I'd bring my own food and ride in turista class.
Thanks, that's just what I'm needing to know.
