Train Experts: Advice on Amsterdam to Antwerp

Is the Thalys high speed route the only way to connect from Amsterdam Centraal to Antwerp, Belgium? Is there a cheaper, slower inter-city train that I could take that would not require me to book a ticket far in advance to get the best possible price? Would prefer to keep my itinerary flexible and maybe buy a ticket as a walk up at the counter same day (or at least a few days before departure), so do not mind if it is a slower train ride with more frequent stops. If there is an inter-city train and you could provide either the name of the train service or a web link to the timetables so I could see how often it departs, where it stops along the way to Antwerp and get a rough idea of a round trip ticket price, that would be extremely helpful. Travel is in mid May of this year. Many thanks for any help some of the board's train experts can offer up.

It's best to use this site: http://www.nshispeed.nl/en Only because the Fyra high-speed train service has suspended operations between Rotterdam and Brussels because of faulty equipment, are you able to use regular intercity trains between the two places for the time being.
