Train Bern to lauterbrunnen.

Do we need these tickets ahead of time? It looks like there are frequent departures?

You can't make reservations on domestic inter-city trains in Switzerland. You simply purchase your tickets at the windows/tickets machines before your departure. If you have a Swiss Pass you simply hop on and off the trains.

And do not worry about it - there are plenty of seats available even in the peak season. Remember that you will switch to a private rail line in Interlaken and make sure that you get on the right train car - half the cars go to Lauterbrunnen and half go to Grindelwald, though these are all clearly marked. Enjoy!

You need to get off the train at Interlaken OST and switch to the one to Lauterbrunnen.

The private train into Lauterbrunnen is the Jungfraubhan railway. It is part of the overall Swiss train system. It departs from Interlaken Ost and the trip takes 20 minutes.
