Tours to Neuschwanstein....

So I need some advice. We are going to visit Neuschwanstein castle on the last day of our trip and I think at this point I want someone else to guide me. I just want to follow someone. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has used any of these 3 tour companies and if you could give me a little help in choosing which one would be good to go with, I would appreciate it very much!

The first is Viator, the second is Radius Tours and the third is the GreyLine sightseeing tours.

From what I can tell from their websites, the Greyline will ship us off in big buses and the other 2 give you a guide to take you on the train out to Fussen. I have no preference to using bus or train, just wanted some feedback on the kinds of tours and who liked what!

Thanks again!

Well I would say first off, and Rick recommends this in his Germany book, is to obtain the tickets early as possible to avoid long lines at the gate. There is a great web site where you can do this in advance:

I wish i could be of help on the buses, sorry

Cheers,

As a personal preference, I would take a guide before riding on a bus tour ANY day. You get much better information, the time is spent more wisely,(no waiting on your fellow bus passengers) and the bus tours are often done with Audio headsets to accommodate all the different languages of the passengers. I have not used any of these tour companies though and cannot really make a recommendation. Do they have reviews on their websites to read from former clients? That is how I often base my decisions on who to use.

Another tour that may be of interest is one by Mike's Bikes in Munich. You can Google them. They just started doing Neuschwanstein. You take a private bus down there and then you actually hike up the back way past a waterfall and then tour the inside (they do all the arrangements for tickets, etc.). Afterwards they take you to the nearby luge area if you want to pay yourself (cheap) for rides and lunch. You can extend the tour by signing up for the optional bike ride around a lake, which seems cool.

The prices were very reasonable for what you get. We were thisclose to doing it this summer and the only reason we didn't was b/c we decided to save Fuessen for another trip w/my parents.

We stayed nearby in Reutte at a little place Steve recommended and then took the bus to Fussen. Then you can either catch a cab (only like $10 US) or wait for the bus. Personally, I think you can handle it without the guide/tour bus. I do recommend buying your tickets online so you can pick them up in the will call line. It'll save you having to wait to buy tickets. Also, if you decide not to go with the tour group, there is a fun little bobsledding place for only a couple of Euro just a short walk away from the Castle (maybe a mile). I'd also recommend doing both castles, they are spectacular. The castles have guided tours, so I think you'd be better off saving the cash for another splurge on your trip.

Either way, you'll LOVE it! It was my favorite part of the trip.
