Tours (Loire Valley), France

I read in the book that it states that Tours is not a place to bother to go. I have not read any negative on TripAdvisor. I am curious to know why.

I am staying in Amboise and thought of taking the train and just seeing this area and having lunch or dinner.

Thank you.

It's a good central base to explore the surrounding chateaux, have dinner, and enjoy some night life, but doesn't have a chateau of its own or much else of interest.

It has an okay, but not great, cathedral. Unless you've read a lot of french history, the place is hard to appreciate. Overall, it's very bland.

I'd find someplace else to go; maybe make a whole day of it and go to Orleans.

I used it as a base to visit the chateaux. Not much to see there but had a couple of delicious meals in the small restaurants and generally a relaxing time. Amboise, Blois, etc are probably more interesting from a tourist point of view.

Hi Joan,
I actually lived there about two years ago for my study abroad. The town itself is nice, but there really isn't much touristy stuff there. Place Plumerau is the place to go and have a nice dinner or eat some yummy gelato! If you're looking for a nice relaxing night out Place Plumerau probably would do it for you if you're going in the summertime. Otherwise it's like any other college town and students are everywhere! I love Tours, but I also think I'm biased! But it is a nice place to maybe visit for a nice relaxing day and maybe do some shopping.
