The walking tour we enjoyed was given by the TI in the Barri Gotic. You may be interested in someone to give you more of an overview of the city. This walking tour might be nice if combined with some visits to Modernist architecture sights in the afternoon. There's only so much you can accomplish in one day.

Here's a partial answer to your query: if you are a foodie, checkout Taste Barcelona! The guide is an Australian expat, married to a local gal. He offers small group (or private) tours of Barcelona's neighborhoods via some neat restaurants and bars. We did a 5-hr walking tour w/ him in May 2013, and had a wonderful time (food and drink were awesome, too). Try www.Taste-Barcelona.com. I also did a Yelp review of our experience . . . good luck. RL
