My husband and I are hoping to see some of the tour on our trip this summer. I am a teacher in the U.S. and so summer, unfortunately, is what works best. Fortunately, we will be passing through the area during a mountain stage of the Tour and we are renting a vehicle. We were thinking about booking a room in Chateau-D'Oex but have read that you need to camp out possibly the night before in order to get up the mountain. We were not planning on bringing camping gear but are considering sleeping in our rental car. I am worried about having a place to park the car overnight. I am curious to know your opinions about both options: 1. Sleeping in the car 2. Sleeping in Chateau-D'Oex. What other general advice do you have for going to the tour?
We also have a tenative schedule. We are flying into Rome and out of Venice. We like to come and go as we please and we like the options of staying in places a little off the beaten path, which is why we are getting a rental.
We only have 17 days and would like to make sure we see the Tour on our 8th day near Lake Geneve. Other areas we know we want to see are Rome, Florence, Munich, Neuschwanstein, and Venice. As you can see below the days only add up to 16. So, we do have an extra day that we can add somewhere. We are also looking for suggestions as to specific must see sights either between cities or if you think we should spend more time in one city over another. This is our first trip to Europe and we are a young energetic couple that would like to see as much as possible.
