Tour de France - Modest Accomodation Near Grenoble

A portion of our trip this year is going to watch Stage 13 of the La' Tour. Not very familiar with French accommodation though. Does anyone know of nice reasonable accomodation; maybe off the beaten track in or around the Grenoble area. We are accustom to staying in smaller towns with accommodation such as Pensiones in Germany and Agritourismo in Italy. We will likely be there 3 nights before heading down to Italy and 5 Terre. Bob

If push comes to shove, you can always see what Accor Hotels have open. The Budget Ibis, Formule 1, Etap, and Adagio brands aren't that steep.

Try logis-de-france.com and see what inns are on their list for the Grenoble area.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check them out but I suspect they are located in Grenoble. If possible we're hoping to find some thing in a small village or farm outside the city. Usually more quaint and local hospitality but being that the Tour de France is going through at the same time, it is going to be a wild and crazy time with hordes of people.

Most Logis de France hotels are located outside of cities, actually. Try logis-de-france.com/isere. Or logis-de-france.com/rhone-alpes. I found one for you, the Hotel La Cle des Champs Claix, located a bit south of Grenoble and it looks really nice. We have stayed at numerous Logis de France places all over France and have never had a complaint.

I second the info on Logis. We found small hotels through them and stayed at 3 in totally different parts of France last year. This is the direct link to their opening page: http://www.logishotels.com/en/. In smallish print at the bottom of the green box on the upper right of the page is a link to More Criteria. Click on it and you will go to a page with lots of search options. The higher the number of chimneys, the better the accommodation. The higher the restaurant rating, the better the food. That will be shown as pots when you get your results. Please note that the list of regions is not in alphabetical order and the Rhone Alps is at the very bottom. If the "I don't have specific dates in mind" box is checked, you must uncheck it to be able to put your specific dates in the other boxes.

Thanks for the additional suggestions. I just tried the Hotel La Cle des Champs Claix and found it was fully booked for my dates, too bad because it looked nice. I'll try the others as well but I am finding most already fully booked for these dates because as I had mentioned, the Tour de France is going through Grenoble on the Friday and starting from Grenoble city on the Saturday. It's the biggest sporting event of the year in France and very popular. I'll keep trying.
