Visiting my daughter for 4 days in Toulouse, leaving tomorrow night from Boston (yes, this is short notice). We are day-tripping Friday to Albi. Any other suggestions for quick trips in/about Toulouse or any great places to see or eat in the city? btw, we are staying at the centrally located, but not greatly reviewed Crowne Plaza..what hotel should I have booked (downtown)?
I do not know if you want to go a little further up around Rodez, but this area is incredibly lovely. We stayed in Sauveterre en Rouergue which is an historic bastide about 10 or so miles southeast of Rodez. Another incredible drive is to Belcastel about 10 miles north and due east of Rodez. Both places are on the prettiest villages of France list and both have Michelin starred restaurants. We stayed at the Le Senechal in Sauveterre and the food there is wonderful and reasonable. The hotel is wonderful, also.In Belcastel the Vieux Pont restaurant and small guesthouse is also wonderful. the drives are beautiful ......Worth a drive and or a meal or a stay.Must have reservations at both. this area is the Aveyron and is just spectacular. Also you could see the Millau bridge and the Rochafort... I spelled that wrong sorry.....cheese town and cellars.Lovely, lovely area.
