Torn between 2 hotels in Bayeux

Hello. I am trying to choose between Hotel d'Argouges which looks beautiful, especially in the common areas, and is the right price but seems a little far from the sites and the Le Lion d'Or which is more expensive, but seems more central. Does anyone have any experience with these hotels? Which would you recommend. They're both in the Rick Steves guidebook, so I'm torn.

Last year on a RS tour, we stayed at the Hotel d'Argouges and then walked to dinner at Le Lion D'Or. I am guessing it was a 5 or 10 minute walk. Bayeux is not that big. The hotel d'Argouges was a great place to stay - nice rooms, nice French breakfast, staff was very helpful with any questions, beautiful gardens and off the street a little so it was quiet. On Saturdays, there is a street market right across the street. Our dinner at Le Lion d'Or was wonderful. The Hotel d'Argouges made our reservation and paid for a complimentary glass of champagne when we arrived. The Cathedral and tapestry are worth a visit and the D Day beaches are only a few miles away. Hope this helps

I would choose Hotel D'Argouges. We absolutely love this hotel. We've stayed there 3 times and are returning again in August. Hotel D'Argouges is absolutely in the heart of everything. I agree with everything the previous poster said. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms large, beautiful bathrooms, wonderful garden with beautiful flowers everywhere. You can sit in the garden (they have 2 actually) which is so peaceful and serene. The breakfast's are really good, there is parking, and there's a GREAT, inexpensive restaurant almost right next door. The owner, Mme Ropartz, and everyone that works there are extremely, extremely nice and friendly and helpful. We spend every summer going all over western Europe and this hotel is one of our absolute favorites. We love Hotel D'Argouges. Ask for a room in the main bldg with a view of the garden. You will love it here.

Everyone on this site is so awesome! I've just booked the Hotel d'Argouges. I really appreciate all of the feedback. I thought it looked beautiful but was worried about it being too out of the main part of town.

Thanks again!

Hi Amy, I'm so glad you picked Hotel D'Argouges! Just wanted to add that Normandy is our favorite part of France. The people are really nice, they are still very grateful to us for saving them in WWII. I hope you will have a car and time to drive the country roads and see all the charming villages and country side. It's magical. Have a great trip!
