hi everyone my family will have experienced 3 days in Madrid at the beginning of our 2 week trip. we are making a 'circular' journey beginning from madrid to barcelona, granada, sevilla and back to madrid before heading home. my question is, rather than returning to madrid on our final day, (the day before our flight departs at 11am) is it possible to spend our last day/night in Toledo and get to the madrid airport in time for our 11am flight? I'm assuming I'd need to take the train back to madrid center very early (need to check time of 1st train out) and then hire a taxi straight to airport for this to work. wanted to see if this idea is too ambitious and if anyone has done this before. Thank you! Grace
I drove in from Toledo to Madrid airport for an 11 am flight last May, but I was dropped at the airport. We left Toledo at 7:30 and I was dropped off just before 9:00. If you have to get to the airport from town, though, it's at least a 35 min. taxi trip, so you have to factor that into your timing.
thank you nancy. great info. do you recall if it was a special car service who drove you from toledo-madrid airport?
We went from Toledo to the Madrid airport to catch a flight, but we did it all by train and subway (except the taxi from hotel to train station in Toledo). I think our flight was closer to 1 pm and it felt like we got up pretty early in Toledo. Doing this by public transportation might be tight and you should definitely taxi from train station to the airport.
What day of the week is your flight? On weekdays the first train from Toledo to Madrid departs at 6:25 so you would be fine. But on Saturday and Sunday, the first train is at 9:25, too late for you.
No, sorry, I was with friends who dropped me off.
Have you thought about leaving the Madrid part of your trip till the end? One thing you didn't mention is when your trip is and if you've bought the airline tickets yet. If you haven't bought yet I suggest going "open jaw" and flying to Barcelona instead of Madrid and flying home from Madrid (and remember even if the price to Barcelona is more expensive than Madrid you will probably lose any savings on the train from Madrid to Barcelona). You'll be seeing plenty of Spain so you won't really be missing anything. Personally I think this will give you peace of mind and time to just relax in Madrid prior to flying home.
The train ride from Toledo to Madrid is an hour or so long. Getting from Atocha station in Madrid to the airport will take about 30-45 minutes. It it were me, i would catch a 7am train which would most likely get me to the airport at around 9am which should be fine. I would say, go for it!!
