Where would one go to buy stuff like shampoo, toothpaste and shaving cream in Haarlem? Thanks.
They probably don't push a lot of sunscreen in December, Claire.
Same as at home - a supermarket. There are several. I like Albert Hein, but it may be best for you to use the one nearest your hotel.
How about sunblock (did not see any on AH website).
This place is the Dutch equivalent to Rite Aid/Walgreens/CVS: http://goo.gl/maps/XV8Gs There is also another outlet connected to the train station.
There are several places between the station and Grote Markt where one may buy the things you're looking for. Sorry, I can't recall the name, but I'm specifically referring to the street where the Corrie Ten Boomhuis is located. It's all pedestrian with tons of shops & restaurants. Also, up by the V&D Department Store and bus stop...tons of shops up that way, too. In Sept, I went into two different shops along this stretch that were similar to a Walgreen's...there are probably more than two with what you need, however. I guess my point is that you'll find what you need somewhere between the station and the V&D store.
The place I listed (Etos) is right next to the V&D department store.
Sunscreen tends to be a seasonal item, but you might find it at a pharmacy.
The Etos is easy to find and very reasonably priced. My husband bought reading gasses there..just because they had a nice selection and good prices. He didn't need them for the trip or anything.
Thanks to all for your replies. Nigel: I am not planning on going to Haarlem/Amsterdam right now. Perhaps during the summer...
