I'm planning on taking my dad to Munich for opening weekend of Oktoberfest 2012. My father is in his 70s so I'd prefer to stay in the city of Munich - but every hotel I've looked at so far already seems to be booked! I'm open to anything other than a hostel and something in the outer parts of the city is fine as long as it is close to the UBahn. My father and I both speak German so non-English speaking places are fine as well. Thanks in advance!
Hi Christine, Good for you - planning so far ahead! in 2007 we stayed in an apartment we found on VRVO: http://www.vrbo.com/60515. It's about 3 blocks from the nearest Ubahn station. Our hostess was very helpful in helping us navigate the U and S bahn to get to Oktoberfest - it took a few transfers but nothing major. In 2008 we stayed out near Nymphenburg: http://www.laimerhof.de/en.html. Nice room and friendly staff. It was a few blocks from Tram 17 that easily connects you to the Altstadt. In 2011 we stayed at Pension Lindner: http://www.pension-lindner.com/index1.htm a few blocks from Marienplatz. 2008 and 2011 were just for fun and not Oktoberfest related. While I love Oktoberfest I prefer plain-old- classic biergartens. Have you discovered The Beer-Drinker's Guide to Munich? It's a great resouce for Biergarten Hopping... in May we hit 21 different biergartens in 7 days - Pure Heaven! http://www.beerdrinkersguide.com/BDGWebsite/GardensIndex.htm Prost,

"something in the outer parts of the city is fine as long as it is close to the UBahn." The U-bahn (Untergrund Bahn) only runs in the inner city. In fact there are only three stations (all called Garching-something) on one line that are outside the Innenraum. You probably mean the S-Bahn, which runs to the outer edges of the transit district.
