We will being traveling to Germany in October I was just wandering is it customery to leave a tip for the maid in the room or if you stay at a Pension and the innkeepers are the owners do you leave a tip? Thanks for any advice.

Hi Linda, I don't know if it customery but I do not leave a tip but I usually take a little gift to give them. I live in Oregon. I have taken little jars of jam, etc. I now look for a small Oregon calendar and I make scarves to take. They pack so much lighter than the jars of jam since we carry on our backpacks. I also have journals with the hosts initial, Oregon ballpoint pen and notepad, etc. Just a nice thank you. I'll watch for other responses as to tipping.

Yes, we tip them, just as we do in the US. Maids are just as underpaid there as they are here. Doesn't have to be a large amount, but leaving something is always a nice thing to do for someone who is working hard for little pay.
