In Rick Steves Germany 2014 guidebook, I do not see a mention of a timed-entry reservation needed for the Pergamon and Neues Museums in Berlin. I will have a Museumspass. Do I need to reserve an entry time?
Why not consult the official website?
They are still selling tickets for specific times on each date.
I couldn't find information regarding using the Museumspass on the website. However, I emailed them and they said that no reservation is needed for the Neues Museum, but a reservation is needed for the Pergamon Museum. Additionally, they said that much of the Pergamon Museum is currently unavailable due to renovations.
We were in Berlin in September, and visited both museums you're asking about. We purchased 3-day passes good for transportation and museum entries; and for that reason, I think, didn't need reservations for either. Pergamon was definitely open. I think I'm remembering correctly that part of the Neues was under renovation, but there was still plenty to see. If you can contact Tourist Information, maybe you could get the most current information.
I was in Berlin last May and got the Museum Pass which saved lots of time. At the time most of the Pergamon Museum was open but I was told there would be some sections closed through part of 2014, at least.
Thank you!
