Larry, we haven't been to Chamonix in May, only in July. My suggestion; scroll up to top of page to "search" box, enter "Chamonix" or "Chamonix in May" and see what past posters discussions reveal. Good Luck, you will love Chamonix/and hopefully Mt. Blanc.
