Thinking of staying a couple of nights in Bellinzona or Locarno instead of Lugano, because we really want to see Lavertezzo. The pictures I've seen are so wonderful. Would we be missing out in any big way by not going to Lugano? We'll be in Switzerland for 3 weeks. Going to Appenzell, Luzern, (one of the above), Pontresina . . . following Rick's 'Best two weeks by train' more or less, will change it up here and there. Thoughts?

Karen, Locarno would be an excellent choice of locations for a stay in Ticinio. It's an incredibly beautiful city, and you should have no trouble finding things to do for a few days. Lugano is nice also but of the two, my preference is still Locarno. Happy travels!
