Does anyone have any recent experiecne using the Travel Information centers in Bavarian towns? I used to just fly by the set of my pants, with no reservations in Germany. I would find a little town I liked, go into the local TI, and book a room. Has anyone done this lately? The last several times I have gone to Germany, I have had a group and needed to book ahead.
Now just my husband and I are traveling in March. I would like to be able to go wherever we want and not be locked into an itenerary that is pre-determined with hotel reservations. Is that still possible in the age of internet booking?
We used TI's both in 2006 and 2010 for help in finding lodging. We stay in B&B's and some TI's would give a several choices for us to check out and others would call for us. It was never a problem finding a place to stay. We traveled in the spring and not the high season.
If it's a town that doesn't see a lot of tourist traffic, the "TI" is likely to be a small billboard.
I'd visit the TI office webpages before going and note some choices for each town you plan to visit. Then call ahead the day before to secure a room (or the morning of.) The TI offices typically operate on a limited schedule during slow periods and may or may not be open to help you when you're ready for help.
Thanks for the suggestions and information. And I apologize for the misspellings in the original post. :-)
