Three days in Switzerland

Hello all...I will be in Switzerland from the 20th of March until the night of the 22nd...I plan on taking Rick's suggestion and exploring the Berner Oberland from the base of Grindelwald (Hotel Lauberhorn

Here's my itinerary:
20-Arrive in Montreux early AM (overnight train from Venice)...then Golden Pass to Interlaken Ost...afternoon free
21-Lauterbrunnen Valley
22-??? before PM train to Milan

On the 22nd was thinking about going down to Zermatt for the day before heading to Milan...is it worth it for what will essentially be a half-day, or should we just spend the good part of the day exploring and hiking around the Interlaken area?

The seven days prior will be in Italy...depending on one itinerary change that might happen there, I may get an extra day in Switzerland by arriving on the 19th (which I'm hoping for)...any suggestions for a FOUR day itinerary? Head up to Luzerne for a day, perhaps?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Zermatt is nice - but not as nice as Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Muerren (in my opinion). Don't waste a huge day traveling to/from Zermatt when you are already in one of the most beautiful areas in the world.

According to sbb.ch it's about a 6+ hour roundtrip from Lauterbrunnen to Zermatt just sitting on the train...it's not worth it.

Hi Christopher,
I certainly agree with Tim and Paul. If you have a fourth day, Lucerne is worthwile. On the other hand, you could easily spend more time in the Interlaken / Grindelwald area ... and plan on returning to Switzerland on another vacation. P.

Thanks for the replies...Zermatt was going to be the last day, sort of an out-of-the-way pit-stop on the way back to Milan...but I tend to agree with all of you...there's more than enough to do around Interlaken...

Cheers!
