My wife and I will be in Provence from 8/4-12/07. Rick's book on Provence says not to miss Nice. But his and other guidebooks say this is a bad time to go there because of the crowds. Go now or wait for another time?

I have been in Paris in July, which has also said to be busy because of crowds. Yes there are lots of people, but if you get up early, go to the main tourist sites as soon as they open, you will beat the crowds. I have been to many European cities such as London, Paris, Venice, Florence and Rome during high tourist season and have seen all of the main tourist sites.
I feel you should go now, who knows what the future holds? Go for it!
